OAK PARK, IL — Reconstruction of the parking lot at Village Hall is set to begin the week of April 22 and continue into early June, barring any unforeseen delays, the village said.

The project should not disrupt traffic on adjacent streets, and operations at Village Hall will continue as usual, officials said. The number of vehicles parked on neighborhood streets will increase temporarily during business hours on work days.

In addition to resurfacing the pothole-pocked parking lot for the first time in at least two decades, the project will include new lighting, electric vehicle charging stations and enhancements to bring the lot into compliance with standards set out in the Americans with Disabilities Act, the village said.

A number of trees in and around the lot also will be replaced and work will be performed on portions of the Oak Park Police Department's underground garage.

Initially, parking in the lot will be limited, but no parking will be available in the lot beginning in early May until the project is completed, the village said. All Village Hall employees and visitors will be required to park on nearby streets during that time.

Parking for persons with disabilities will be established on Lombard Avenue by the accessible west entrance of Village Hall, with visitor parking designated along portions of Lombard and Taylor avenues during business hours and for night meetings.

Pedestrian entrances to Village Hall will remain accessible as usual; however, routes to the south door may vary by day, the village said. The door closures will be marked by signs.

The Village Hall bill payment box, FedEx and USPS drop boxes, and bicycle rack will be relocated temporarily to the northwest corner of Village Hall on the southeast corner of Lombard Avenue and Madison Street.
