Hayrides, painted faces, sweets & pumpkin painting: annual tradition, free family-friendly event returns to McAdam Nursery & Garden Center
After nearly a decade of holding a Pumpkin Party in October, the McAdam Nursery & Garden Center is adding a wrinkle this year with its first-ever Pumpkin-Palooza.
The event on Saturday, October 19th will provide a free pie pumpkin for every child who comes—and a carving pumpkin for those who show up in costume.
In the same family-friendly fall-time tradition that has marked prior festivities this time of year, Pumpkin-Palooza begins at 10 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. in the garden center located at 2001 Des Plaines Ave. in Forest Park.

The occasion will also feature hayrides, painted faces, a pumpkin painting station, a spooky story time and sweet treats as the main ingredients. All of the activities are free and open to the entire community.
During the event, McAdam will also offer huge fall discounts on all trees, shrubs, and perennials that are in stock.

For those looking to know what they can still plant, professionals will be on hand to give tips on how to winterize your garden. Particularly with plants that have been growing in the same containers all year long, this is a good time of year to landscape, said McAdam horticulturist Scott McAdam Jr.
“This is the point when they have gotten full-sized and are ready to plant,” said McAdam. “It’s very beneficial, before next summer’s heat comes around, to give new plantings as many as six to eight months to get established.”
A half-mile south of Roosevelt Road, in the southwest corner of Forest Park, McAdam Nursery & Garden Center is open until mid-November.
