Senior Services Director Pamela Mahn Named "Director of the Year"

Pamela Mahn, Director of Oak Park and River Forest Townships Senior Services, was named the 2020 Senior Director of the Year. Ms. Mahn received this distinguished award from the Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizen Services Committee (ITASCSC) on November 13, 2020. Ms. Mahn credits Township leaders and her team for successfully pivoting this year during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide uninterrupted service to the community. A few accomplishments cited in her nomination include:

• Overseeing programs serving Oak Park and River Forest older adults including case management, transportation, nutrition services
• Playing a key role in helping Oak Park and River Forest achieve Dementia Friendly status
• Providing front line assistance to ensure continuation of the nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing 66,549 meals between March and August 2020 – more than all meals distributed during 2019
• Serving as ITASCSC Treasurer

In addition, Senior Services of Oak Park and River Forest Townships was recognized, along with former River Forest Township Senior Services Outreach Coordinator Cathaleen Roach, for the 2020 Innovative Senior Program of the Year. Called “The Gifts of Genealogy and Meaningful Memoirs,” this unique program developed over time to encourage older adults to write memoirs, strengthen their storytelling skills and pursue genealogy research. ITASCSC stated, “The program’s creators and speakers focus on workshops and methods which encourage seniors to creatively pass their unique family stories onto future generations using a variety of methods…This continuum of programming proves that collaborating with an array of partners can create something extraordinary!”

Throughout Ms. Mahn’s nearly 25 years with the Township, she has earned increased responsibilities and was appointed Director of Senior Services in 2017. Gavin Morgan, Oak Park Township Manager, expressed these thoughts about the 2020 ITASCSC Award recognition: “I am always inspired by Pam’s commitment and focus to the mission of Oak Park Township Senior Services, and serving the older adults in our community. She tirelessly pursues new programs and partnerships for their benefit.”
