Several Summer Theft Reports In Oak Park: Police
The Oak Park Police Department responded to several crime incidents during the last weekend of June 2020.
OAK PARK, IL — Members of the Oak Park Police Department responded to the following recent crime reports:
Burglary from a motor vehicle
An Apple MacBook Pro, Apple Series 3 Watch, textbooks and cash were were stolen from a car Friday in the 300 block of N. Austin Boulevard. According to police, the person or people who took the items possibly got into the car via an unlocked door. The car belonged to a Chattanooga, Tennessee resident. The estimated value of the stolen items is $2,000.

Car and lawn equipment theft
Police are looking for a suspect in a Friday truck theft, described a 25 to 30-year-old Black man, 5'6" to 5'8", with a stocky build, long black hair tied in a bun, and tattoos above his eyebrows. According to the police report, the suspect was wearing all black clothing during the incident, which took place at 9:05 a.m. in the 600 block of N. Oak Park Avenue. The police report said the theft victim's (a Chicago resident) car was unlocked with the keys in the ignition, and was taken along with various lawn care equipment. The estimated value of the stolen items is $10,000.

The car was found by the Chicago Police Department in the 3500 block of N. Cumberland in Chicago around 4:20 p.m. Friday, but no arrests were made.
Property theft
An estimated $2,000 in various sculptures and computer equipment was taken from an Oak Park resident's back deck of their home around 12 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of N. Lake Street.
Bike theft
A blue Trek mountain bike was taken from a parking lot outside Pete's Fresh Market, at 259 Lake Street between 5 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Saturday. According to the police report, the bike belonged to an Oak Park resident, and was taken after the suspect or suspects broke the lock and removed it while it was secured in the parking lot. The estimated loss is $1,000.
