Stink Bugs Descend On Homes In Oak Park

Residents are advised to caulk cracks and crevices to keep the bugs out.

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park residents are on high alert after stink bugs have been spotted throughout the village. The brown marmorated stink bugs can get into your home and be a general nuisance, but Oak Park officials say the bugs will not harm trees, as some residents have worried.

Marmorated stink bugs tend to descend on homes during the autumn months as they seek shelter from the cold. Officials say the bugs don't bite or sting. They don't carry diseases either. Their main crime is stinking up a storm when they're crushed.

Oak Park residents are advised to caulk any crevices or cracks inside or outside your home to prevent the stink bugs from getting in. If you spot stink bugs in your home, remove them with a napkin or a vacuum and put them outside or into a bucket of soapy water.
