Pat reached out to me a few months ago as she and her brother Ed were preparing to sell their parents’ home, the one where they had grown up, down the street from Lincoln School in south Oak Park. It was a charming 2 bedroom brick bungalow with a partially finished attic and original kitchen & bath.

While it was an emotional decision for them to sell, they recognized an opportunity in the local Oak Park real estate market: there are many investors who are looking to buy fixer-upper homes in our community. We received multiple offers in our month on the market, and the sellers were able to hold out for a fair price.

They did a lot of the hard work up front: cleaning out years of collectibles and family possessions that had accumulated in the 70-ish years their family had owned the property. Once that was far enough along, we took photos and began the marketing process. We reached out directly to brokers who work with the cash investors in the area and fielded 5 offers for the seller to choose from.
