Vandalism Gets Personal When Someone Eggs Car, Scrawls 'Whore' on Garage Door: Oak Park Police Blotter

The following items were taken from Oak Park police blotters throughout the past week. An arrest doesn't constitute a finding of guilt.

Property damage

  • Between Jan. 14 and Jan. 15, an Oak Park resident living in the 900 block of Wisconsin reported that someone had damaged their 2007 silver Acura TL by throwing eggs at the car, and that their garage door was vandalized. Someone had written “whore” in a black marker across the garage door. The estimated loss due to the damage is $500.

  • A resident living in the 400 block of Thomas told police that between the evening of Jan. 13 and the morning of Jan. 14, someone had shot four nails from a nail gun into the front tire of their 2015 Chevy Traverse, causing $200 of damage to the car.

Car theft

  • A Toyota Corolla that was left unattended, running and with the keys in the ignition was stolen around 6:15 p.m. from the 800 block of S. Ridgeland.
  • Another car — a 2011 silver Ford Edge — was stolen in a similar way from the 600 block of Woodbrine Avenue. The car was left unattended with the keys in the ignition.

  • One person lost $2,000 when someone broke into their 2014 Toyota Corolla between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16. The car was parked in the 400 block of Wisconsin Avenue, and the offender pulled back the backseat of the car to access the trunk and stole an pink Eddie Bauer backpack, an Apple Macbook Air, a Coach leather purse, a pair of Asics gym shoes, workout clothes, several credit cards, a driver’s license and cash.

Theft

  • An unknown person stole a $500 Oak Park parking boot from a 2008 gold Kia that was parked in the 100 block of N. Humphrey Jan. 13. The theft is believed to have taken place just before 1 p.m. that day.
  • Someone removed the parking permit sticker from a Nissan Sentra parked in the 1100 block of Ontario between Jan. 11 and Jan. 13.

Domestic battery

  • Antoinette English, 57, of the 400 block of South Clinton, was arrested the evening of Jan. 13 for domestic battery. She’s being held in custody for bond hearings.
  • Anthony J. Brown, 31, was arrested Jan. 15 in the 800 block of Lake Street for striking someone he’d been having an argument with.
