Silver Lake Country Club For Sale, Housing Redevelopment Possible

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Silver Lake Country Club has been privately listed for sale on the Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) real estate website. The nearly 300-acre, family-owned golf course has been in Orland Park for decades.

The country club, located at 14700 S. 82nd Ave., Orland Park, has been owned by the Coghill family since it opened. Selling the property may lead to a "massive residential development" as the coronavirus pandemic increases the current demand for suburban housing, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

Although the property is for sale, it is non-viewable to the public on JLL. A direct invitation to view the property is needed, according to the website.

Crain's reports that the asking price can vary widely, all depending on the nature and scale of a redevelopment project. Crain's said the value of the area could be lower if only part of the country club gets redeveloped, but also reported that industry experts estimated a home builder could pay over $10 million for the entirety of the property due to its location and the value of other homes in the Orland Park area.

Family member and club events manager, Amy Coghill, told Patch that the family decided "it was [just] time," and is open to all possibilities moving forward. Coghill said it is likely to be a minimum of two years before anything "comes to fruition," adding that the family will continue to host "many rounds of great golf and fabulous events," at the club.

Silver Lake is home to three golf courses with 45 holes. Other than golfing, the country club's website says it is also a place many have hosted private parties and other events, noting its eye-catching greenery and thousands of lights. Learn more about the country club on its website, here.
