3 Teens Charged With 'Breaking Into' Unlocked Vehicles In Oswego

The teens from Aurora, Batavia and Montgomery were driving around in a stolen car, according to police.

Oswego Police charged three teens for possessing one stolen vehicle and entering three unlocked vehicles, according to a department press release.

Around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday, police received a report of three males breaking into vehicles on the 600 block of Hawley Drive. The caller also reported a suspicious vehicle had circled the block several times.

Officers located a vehicle that matched the description. When they stopped the vehicle, the driver fled into nearby fields. Police determined that the vehicle was reported stolen in Batavia.

Police continued searching for the suspected, and an hour later, they received a report of a suspicious male walking in the Ogden Falls Subdivision. After expanding the search area and contacting nearby businesses, police located three suspects.

The suspects were a 16-year-old male from Aurora, a 15-year-old from Montgomery, and a 16-year-old from Batavia. They were referred to Juvenile Court and released to their parents with a pending court date. They were charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony burglary of a vehicle and misdemeanor criminal trespass to a motor vehicle.

Police received reports of three unlocked vehicles in the Prescott Mill Subdivision that had been entered without permission. The Oswego Police Department wanted to "remind the public to please keep your vehicle doors locked when unattended."
