OSWEGO, IL — Kate Monteleone announced that she is running against incumbent state Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) in the Nov. 3 election.

"People I’ve met are tired of the status quo," Monteleone said in a news release. "The community’s enthusiastic response for my candidacy has been overwhelming. I am eager to connect with more voters to hear their concerns and ideas for the future of the district and Illinois."

Wheeler has been serving the 50th District since 2015. The 50th District covers much of southwest Kane County and northern Kendall County, including Sugar Grove, Elburn, Campton Hills and Yorkville, as well as portions of St. Charles, Batavia, North Aurora, Aurora, Montgomery and Oswego.

A nonprofit consultant and executive director with 25 years of leadership experience, Monteleone is a resident of Campton Hills. She said it’s time for real representation for the communities of Kane and Kendall counties included in the 50th District.

"Illinois has its problems," she said. "Our infrastructure is crumbling and there are disparities in access to health care, education and justice that must be addressed. Moving beyond this moment requires courage, compassion and understanding the art of compromise. Governance is not a zero-sum game."
