OSWEGO, IL — Work will soon begin to make way for the massive downtown development The Reserve at Hudson Crossing. Next week, a number of downtown streets will close so excavation work can begin, the village announced Friday.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, crews will close down portions of Adams, Jackson and Harrison streets so work can begin. The following sections of street will be closed:

  • Adams Street, from the Waubonsie Creek bridge to Washington Street
  • Jackson Street, from Adams Street to Harrison Street
  • Harrison Street, from Jackson Street to Washington Street

The closures will remain in place indefinitely.

The street closures are necessary to make way for The Reserve at Hudson Crossing, which will bring luxury apartments, retail space, restaurants and a free public parking garage. Demolition at the site began in February, and the project is slated to be completed by the end of 2020.

Crews for the village also recently began work on public improvements to the area known as Block 11, which will make way for at least three new private developments. The $1.7 million infrastructure project will include:

a reconstructed Adams Street, a rebuilt alley connecting Adams Street to
Main Street, a 21-car parking lot, buried utility lines and a new
pedestrian corridor. Adams Street will be closed until December.

Access to downtown Oswego business will remain open during the work, according to the village. Two entrances to Hudson Crossing Park will remain open during construction: the entrance at the corner of Washington and Harrison streets, and the northernmost entrance via the Fox River Trail.

Other notes from the village on downtown construction:

Local traffic only on North Adams Street
Motorists accustomed to driving through Adams Street from Route 25 to Washington Street should note that this will not be possible during construction. Adams Street from North Street to the Waubonsie Creek Bridge will be open to local traffic only, allowing access to homes and Veterans Serenity Park. No traffic will be able to cross the Waubonsie Creek Bridge.

Veterans Walkway, Veterans Serenity Park to remain accessible
The Veterans Memorial Walkway, which connects Hudson Crossing Park to the library, will remain open during construction, though temporary single-day closures may be required. The new Veterans Serenity Park will be accessible by car from North Avenue and on foot via the Veterans Memorial Walkway and the Fox River Trail from Hudson Crossing Park.

Additional closure on South Adams Street for Block 11
In addition to the street closures around The Reserve at Hudson Crossing, Adams Street from Washington Street to Van Buren Street is already closed for public improvements and is expected to remain closed until early December. This additional closure will support the development of Block 11, the site of a new restaurants, office space, and public parking.
