Fire Leaves 2 Dozen Families Homeless In Oswego

Oswego fire upgraded to box alarm; Red Cross helps families find temporary living arrangements.

OSWEGO, IL — Twenty-four families were displaced after a structure fire Monday morning. Dispatchers received several reports of smoke coming from a structure at the 1500 block of Light Road around 10:30 a.m. Oswego firefighters were called to a structure fire that was spreading in the walls of several attached units that had spread to the attic area. According to a press release from the Oswego Fire Protection District, additional units were needed to aggressively attack the fire. There were no reported injuries.

The fire is thought to be the result of an accident by a maintenance worker, but the exact cause is under investigation. More than an estimated $700,000 in damage was done to the 24-unit dwelling. Red Cross arrived to assist the families.
