Help! I'm Lost in a Corn Maze!

Your editor checks out Oswego's Keller's Farmstand for Halloween.

Well, I was lost in a corn maze. Since I'm typing this I clearly got out of it, but only because my companion is a gifted map reader and was able to navigate us through.

But let me backtrack a little bit.

Over the weekend I went to Oswego's Keller's Farmstand, 2500 Johnson Road, to check out all of the activities to get you ready for Halloween. As noted above, there was a corn maze.

There are actually four different corn mazes, each with a different type of "checkpoint" for you to reach so you wandered lost in towering corn with a sense of purpose.

This year's corn maze theme at Keller's was zombies, so you got to weave through corn stalks of zombie faces, brains and fingers. Because my friend is able to read a map we hit every checkpoint in every maze and finished all four in about an hour and a half. Which I guess is pretty good timing, as when we were first going in a family came out all winded after being lost in the corn for three hours.

There's plenty more at Keller's than just corn though. They have two pumpkin patches available for you and the kids to find your next jack-o-lantern masterpiece. There's one right in the front where the pumpkins are already picked, or you can hike it out to the field and find your own. Don't worry, there are wheelbarrows available so you don't have to carry it all the way back. Pumpkins cost $.45 a pound, for your information.

For the kids there were additional mazes to try: a rope maze and straw maze that were probably more up my directionally-challenged alley. There was also a pirate ship playground and other activities for them to try.

Like every good farm there was a hayride that took you on a tour of the property. Plenty of tomatoes and vegetables ripe for the picking and a beautiful looking apple orchard.

All of the produce was for sale inside the barn along with kettle corn, t-shirts, carving kits and more.

And then of course the first thing you smell upon entering the barn is the apple cider donuts. Baked right in front of you they smell absolutely amazing and I caved and got a bag of the mini ones. Delicious!

The cost for all of the activities at Keller's is $8.99 a person, but I discovered (of course after the fact) that there's a Groupon out there for you to save a little extra!

The Keller's Farmstand Groupon is valid until Oct. 27 and has three options: $9 for two admissions, $17 for four admissions or $26 for six admissions.

If you're looking for something fun for the kids for the weekend I definitely suggest giving Keller's a try.

Just make sure you have someone who is good with maps!

Hours:
The corn maze and all other activities are only open Saturday and Sunday. The pumpkin patch is open daily.
