Kendall 11 Pairs With Local Group To Debut Mental Health Movie

A local group raising money for suicide prevention will be on hand for the opening weekend of "Coming Up For Air."

OSWEGO, IL — A local suicide prevention group is joining with Kendall 11 movie theater to debut a new movie, and hopefully spread awareness of the importance of mental health. The groups are pairing up for three showings of the movie early next week.

"Coming Up For Air" is a new movie that depicts a family dealing with a son who is struggling with mental health issues and school and sports-related pressures. The movie seeks to show the importance of mental health treatment and highlight the pressures students face to succeed.

The movie debuts Friday night in Detroit, and will debut throughout the Midwest the following week, including at Oswego's Kendall 11, 95th Fifth St., at 7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

An Oswego woman and her team of volunteers are partnering with Kendall 11 on the movie's local showings. Sandy Neely-Hoffman raises money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, on behalf of a young adult family member whose life was lost to suicide.

Neely-Hoffman's group will have a table outside each local showing of the "Coming Up For Air," where they will provide information and resources on mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
