Kendall Co. Reports 2 More Coronavirus Deaths On Thanksgiving

The county also reported 263 new cases in the last two days, bringing the total to 5,711 with 2,812 in recovery.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — As people all over the country reveled in Thanksgiving celebrations, the coronavirus claimed two more lives in Kendall County. According to data reported by the Kendall County Health Department, the total death toll as of Friday has gone up to 39, an increase from 37 on Wednesday.

The county also reported 263 new cases in the last two days, bringing the total to 5,711 with 2,812 in recovery. According to Illinois Department of Public Health, the county is at a positivity rate of 18.6 percent and is also at a warning level for the number of deaths reported during the past week. The number new cases per 100,000 people is at 647 and the target is 50 or fewer.

While test positivity in Region 2 has been decreasing, as of Friday, the region is at a warning level for the availability of ICU beds for the first time with 19.5 percent beds available and the target is at least 20 percent. As of Thursday, Region 2 has 42 out of 257 ICU beds still available.

With a steady influx of positive COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks, the Kendall County Health Department is struggling to meet the demands of contact tracing. For the past one week, the county has reported more than 100 new cases per day.

"Our team is diligently working through these cases as rapidly as possible. We continue to refocus and re-prioritize cases to best meet the demand and ensure we are reaching those most vulnerable first," the health department said in a release. "Our team has been working holidays, weekends, and long hours daily to meet the needs of those impacted by this virus for months to stay ahead of the spread in our community."
