Mass Vaccination Event Was A 'Great Next Step': D308 Board Member
Board President Lauri Doyle said it was fulfilling for her to see health department staff members "coming through" for the residents.
KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Oswego School District 308 Board of Education members discussed the success of the Kendall County Health Department's recent mass vaccination event during its Monday meeting.
KCHD had designated Sunday as "Super Educator Sunday" for COVID-19 vaccinations. In a press release, the health department said that all education workers including congregate child care, pre-K through 12th grade teachers, principals, student support, student aides and day care workers that reside or work in Kendall County would be able to schedule an appointment to receive a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Yorkville High School.
According to the district, 1,400 district teachers and substitute teachers received the first dose of the vaccine Sunday, and more than 500 had already received their first dose earlier.

Superintendent Dr. John Sparlin served as a volunteer at the event, and he told the board it was "an excellent experience."
"It was just amazing, everyone coming together to get this job done," he said. "If you were there, it was smooth as can be."

Board President Lauri Doyle also helped out with the discharge process at the event, and it was fulfilling for her to see health department staff members "coming through" for the residents.
"That they were able to offer this to us on such short notice. A little over a week ago, I wouldn’t have guessed this would have happened yesterday," she said, "much less that it would have happened so well and so organized. It was amazingly wonderful to see, and I don’t think that you can say anything bad about that, because that was a great next step."
Educators who received their first vaccine dose on Sunday will return to Yorkville High School Feb. 28 to receive the second dose.
