Oswego FPD To Conduct Training Exercises Downtown
Don't worry if you see smoke downtown, officials said. It's only theatrical and part of a firefighter training exercise.

OSWEGO, IL — Officials say not to worry if you see smoke and fire engines in downtown Oswego this week, it's only a training exercise. The Oswego Fire Protection District will be conducting drills along Adams street beginning Tuesday morning and continuing through Thursday.
The Village initially said that a live fire exercise would take place, but have since corrected that information. There will be no live burns. The smoke is just theatrical.
The training exercise will take place at the site of the future Reserve at Hudson Crossing mixed-use residential and commercial development, which the developer has made available for the fire department's use. Officials say exercises will begin around 8 a.m. each day and continue through the regular workday.

"During the three-day period, the Oswego Fire Protection District will conduct several trainings using theatrical smoke to hone skills like search-and-rescue and firefighter-down drills," officials said in a news release. "Training exercises like these are important for Oswego firefighters to develop and maintain their skill sets."
Officials said the training exercise shouldn't disrupt normal activities around the site. For the most part, all fire vehicles and equipment will be contained within the site, and minimal smoke will be created.
