Oswego HS To Host Blood Drive At Communites Vs. Cancer Event

The drive was inspired by Oswego senior Connor Robinson, who received blood transfusions to save his life after being diagnosed with cancer.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego High School will host a blood drive Saturday, Jan. 26, at the annual Communities vs. Cancer fundraising event, officials say. Other activities will include basketball games between Oswego and Yorkville High Schools, a bake sale, raffle, silent auction, games and activities.

The blood drive will take place at the Oswego High School field house from noon to 4 p.m.

Officials say the blood drive was inspired by Oswego Senior Connor Robinson, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010. He was nine years old at the time and underwent numerous blood transfusions as part of his treatment, according to school officials.

"Today, Connor is a senior at Oswego High School and is fortunate to be alive and in good health," officials said. "It is the blood donations of friends and strangers that have been an important component of his treatment and recovery over the past eight years."

Anyone who donates blood will receive five raffle tickets and free admission to the games.

"No matter what the score, you'll be a winner knowing that you helped kids like Connor and so many others, young and old, by simply taking a few minutes to donate blood," officials said.
