OSWEGO, IL — It's almost time for the ultimate summer celebration: The 4th of July 2018 is this Wednesday, and area communities are gearing up for Independence Day celebrations, complete with fireworks, food, live music and more. Here's a look at how and when area towns are celebrating.

Oswego

  • What: Independence Day Fireworks Show - Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and celebrate America's birthday with a dazzling fireworks display with your friends and family. Parking available at Prairie Point Park, Oswego High School, the Village of Oswego Public Works Facility and East View Academy.
  • When: 9 p.m. July 4. Rain date is July 5.

Yorkville

  • When: Festivities start at 9 a.m. July 4 with a parade starting at Yorkville High School; Fireworks will begin at dusk from the corner of Route 47 and Countryside Parkway.

    • 9 a.m. Parade (lineup at 7:30 a.m.)

  • What: Ribfest fireworks: The annual fest — jam-packed with live music, a family fun area with carnival rides and, of course, award-winning ribs — starts off for the first time with fireworks on the first night.

  • Where: Knoch Park, 724 S. West St.
  • Cost: Free South Park general admission to the fest after 5 p.m. July 4

Aurora

  • What: 4th of July Celebration including performances by the American Legion Band, Fox Valley Orchestra, and free shuttles from 6 to 9 p.m. Coolers, food and drinks are welcome, but no alcohol.
  • When: 3 p.m. July 4; fireworks at dusk
  • Where: RiverEdge Park, 360 N. Broadway St.
  • Cost: Free
  • Schedule
    • 3 p.m. Park opens
    • Free park and ride shuttle service from 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
    • 6:15 p.m. Music starts
    • Dusk - fireworks
    • Shuttles resume after fireworks with last departure at 11 p.m.

Plainfield

  • What: Patriotic Picnic and Fireworks, featuring bike decorating and a bike parade, inflatables, face painting, touch-a-truck, military organizations, music, fireworks and more.
  • When: 6 p.m. July 3; fireworks at dusk.
  • Where: Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive
  • Cost: Free (food and drinks available for purchase)

  • What: All American Celebration with live music, food from local restaurants, a barbecue buffet, kids activities and more. Free shuttle pickup and drop off at Carlow Industrial Park and Plainfield East High School.
  • When: 3 p.m. July 4
  • Where: Bolingbrook Golf Club, 2001 Rodeo Drive
  • Cost: Free (food and drinks available for purchase)
  • Schedule:
    • 4 to 7 p.m.: Barbecue buffet in main ballroom ($25 for adult non-members, $19 for child non-members)
