Oswego Mom's Facebook Comment Prompts Response From Fire Department
Oswego firefighters' Facebook response clarifies how the department operates in an emergency.

OSWEGO, IL — Firefighters sent a message to Facebook followers Saturday afternoon in response to a message in the Facebook group, "Oswego Moms." One woman’s praise for the quick action of firefighters at the Oswego Drum School prompted the following response from the Oswego Firefighters Local 4773:
“People often think the fire department just goes in, sprays water, and break things. Although it may appear that way, there is system to what we break.
The damage we do is what we call overhaul. It is a systematic approach to make sure the fire is completely out and not hiding behind any ceilings, walls, or other hidden areas.
Our ultimate goal, after we know everyone is safe, is the preservation of property. This process is what we call salvage. During this time we may pull pictures off the wall, cover up important or expensive items with tarps, or in this case remove items from the building to protect them from smoke, fire and water.
Unfortunately we can't save everything but we do whatever possible to minimize the loss!
A job well done by Red shift yesterday!”
