Oswego Named One Of Best Cities To Work From Home In U.S.: Study

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego has been named one of the best cities to work from home in America as part of a study by PC Magazine.

Oswego placed 33rd on the list of 60 cities, judged by population, the lowest cost for gigabit broadband, service provider, median home price, median home size, coffee shops per 100 kilometers, parks per 100 kilometers, non-chain restaurants, workers in the arts and education, health care practitioners and workers at home.

Data was gathered from several sources including Ookla Speedtest, a site that provides free analysis of Internet access performance standards, bestplaces.net, and BroadBandNow, compiling a list of 50 cities in the United States and 10 cities in Canada.

"The COVID-fueled remote work boom is driving many North Americans to find new, more affordable homes. If you can work anywhere, though, where should you go?” the article said.

The article also highlighted the parks in Oswego along with its "thriving" downtown district that has many businesses and restaurants.

"Outdoorsy types can ride bikes along the Fox River Trail, which offers over 40 miles of riverfront views. Though the cost of living is a little above the U.S. average, housing costs remain low," the article said.

According to the metrics used by PC Magazine, 4.8 percent of workers in Oswego are working from home, while 11.1 percent of workers are in the arts or education, and 5.9 percent are health care workers. The metrics also show that Oswego has 20 parks per 100 kilometers, and 15 coffee shops per 100 kilometers.

Oswego ranked between two other Illinois cities, Thomasboro at number 28, and Taylorville at number 44.
