Oswego Officials Take Oath Of Office

Troy Parlier, James Marter, Brian Thomas and Terry Olson take the oath of office at Tuesday's special meeting of the Oswego Village Board.

OSWEGO, IL—The village president and three trustees were sworn in for new terms ahead of a special Oswego Village Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday. Troy Parlier, James Marter, Brian Thomas and Terry Olson were on hand to take the oath of office.

All four ran contested campaigns in the run-up to the April 2 election.

“It is a very special night,” Parlier said, referring to being sworn in.

Parlier said it’s been an unbelievable journey to become village president.

“Now this is all behind us, and we move toward leading our great village forward,” he said. “We will always remember that we work for our residents. We will be responsive to their needs, both the present and the future.”

At an April 22 special session, the village board bid farewell to outgoing Village President Gail Johnson and outgoing Trustees Ryan Kaufmann and Karin McCarthy-Lange.

Olson gave thanks to the board and the community for their support.

Thomas shared that sentiment.

“Thank you for entrusting us up here to move Oswego forward,” he said. “The foundation has been laid. We are going to govern the same way we campaigned, being fiscally responsible and putting the needs of Oswego first.”

In other village board business:

  • Trustees authorized the execution of an employment agreement with Daniel Di Santo as village administrator. The contract, which has a May 2023 termination date, provides an annual base salary of $185,377.59, along with an annual pay increase starting in May 2020 no less than the average amount given to the village’s department heads at the time.
  • A motion was passed securing an employment agreement with Jeff Burgner as police chief. The contract, which has an April 2023 termination date, provides an annual base salary of $145,520.26.
  • Officials approved the rezoning to B-3 Community Service and Wholesale District and Preliminary/Final Planned Unit Development for the proposed 7-11, located at 244 Washington St.
