Coronavirus: Takeout Alcohol Sales Allowed In Oswego

An executive order signed by Oswego Mayor Troy Parlier will allow establishments offering curbside pickup to include alcohol on the menu.

OSWEGO, IL — Mayor Troy Parlier signed an executive order on Friday, March 20, allowing bars and restaurants to include alcohol sales in their curbside pickup orders. Any establishment that normally allows on-site alcohol consumption will now be able to offer packaged sales of alcohol to their self-quarantining customers.

The order does come with some rules and stipulations:

  • No delivery of alcoholic beverages
  • No drive-thru alcohol sales. One will have to get out of their vehicle in order to show restaurant / bar staff their ID.
  • No food purchase is necessary when buying packaged alcohol.
  • You must be 21 and show ID to buy alcohol.
  • All other laws relating to the purchase, sale, and consumption of alcohol are also still in effect.

The mayor's executive order also closed all Oswego municipal facilities to the general public, similar to what has been done in other nearby communities. Village staff will continue to work to keep local operations running, but the buildings themselves will be closed to visitors.

A 'stay at home' order is also in effect state-wide, asking all Illinoisans to not leave their residences except for essential purposes such as getting food and supplies, seeking medical aid, and going to work should one's job be impossible to do from home. As always, all state residents are also asked to continue practicing social distancing and good hygiene. These actions help slow the spread of coronavirus and can keep vulnerable people safe from infection.
