Top Chicago Marathon Finishers From Oswego

A total of 57 runners from Oswego crossed the finish line Sunday, including an 85-year-old man.

OSWEGO, IL — The 40th running of the Chicago Marathon took place Sunday with no shortage of representation from the surrounding suburbs. Oswego brought 57 participants. The race, which began and ended in Grant Park, drew in more than 40,000 runners. They made their way through nearly 30 neighborhoods. Jakob Anderson, 28, was the first Oswego man to cross the finish line at 2 hours, 58 minutes and 51 seconds. Oswego's top female finisher was Megan Vaccaro, with a time of 3:34:38.

Other top runners from Oswego include:

  • Timothy Zier, 34, 3:00:50
  • Krista Lewis, 31, 3:39:17
  • Patrick O'Connell, 47, 3:44:31
  • Jill Beauregard, 38, 4:12:31

An honorable mention goes to John Koomjohn, 85, who finished 9th in his division of ages 80 and up.

Galen Rupp of Portland, Oregon, was the first American to win the men’s race in 15 years with a time of 2:09:20. Kenyan Abel Kirui was right on Rupp’s tail, finishing 28 seconds later. Bernard Kipyego, also Kenyan, finished third. The top female finisher was Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia, clocking in just nine minutes after Rupp.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon’s security was beefed up this year amid new concerns following last weekend’s Las Vegas shooting. Chicago Police didn’t have any major security issues along the 26.2 mile route this year, according to WGN 9 TV. Congratulations to all the finishers.
