OSWEGO, IL — Originally known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day began on Nov. 11, 1919 with the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926, Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance, according to History.com. In 1954, President Eisenhower changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. This year it falls on Sunday, Nov. 11.

  • Village of Oswego: City offices are closed.

  • Kendall County offices, including the circuit clerk's office, courts, health department and more will be closed on Veterans Day.

  • Banks: Most are closed. Call your bank before stopping in.
