1 Dog Dead, 1 Hurt, 2 Owners Bitten After Pit Bull, Akita Attack

A woman was walking when she lost control of her pit bull and Akita dogs. They attacked and killed one dog and hurt another, police said.

PALATINE, IL — One pet dog is dead, one is wounded and both owners are wounded after being attacked by a pit bull and an Akita on Monday night in Palatine, police said.

A woman was walking her pit bull and Akita dogs on two leashes in a residential area in the 200 block of West Washington Street, when they passed by another woman walking a smaller dog. Police said the owner lost control of the pit bull and Akita, which then attacked and killed the smaller dog. The woman walking the small dog tried to shield her pet and was also bitten and injured.

The owner did not regain control of her dogs until after they charged and attacked another small dog walking in the area, police said. The second small dog and its owner, a man, suffered bite wounds.
