Conviction Overturned In 1979 Inverness Murder Case: Report

COOK COUNTY, IL — An Illinois Appellate Court recently overturned the conviction of a former Inverness woman sentenced to 30 years in prison for helping to plan her then-husband's 1979 murder, according to the Daily Herald. The news report said the court overturned 73-year-old Jacquelyn Greco's 2016 conviction for the murder of Carl Gaimari, a former commodities broker, and ordered a new trial. Gaimari's family members tell the Daily Herald they're shocked that the appeal won.

During Greco's trial, prosecutors said two men, who were never identified, went inside the coupe's inverness home on April 30, 1973, bound Greco, three of her and Gaimari's four children, and locked them in their bedroom closet, before shooting 34-year-old Gaimari several times with his gun later that afternoon.

Prosecutors said Greco was having an affair at the time of the shooting, and that she and her lover — former Chicago police officer Sam Greco — came up with the plot, according to the Daily Herald. The news source added that the two got married months later, and Sam, who died last year, was never charged. Greco is currently being held at the Logan Correctional Center.
