District 15 Embraces National Bike to School Day

1,296 students rode their bikes to school in recognition of National Bike to School Day in Palatine.

From Bike Palatine: Did you ride to school when you were a child? It’s far less common these days. But CCSD 15 is bucking the trend. A whopping 1,296 students rode their bikes to school in recognition of National Bike to School Day this week. Organized by the Bike Palatine Club, a total of 12 schools participated in this year’s event including St. Thomas of Villanova (40), Lake Louise (19), Paddock (87), Sanborn (77), Kimball Hill (101), Lincoln (92), Virginia Lake (29), Jane Addams (63), Hunting Ridge (181), Pleasant Hill (189), Whiteley (345) and Thomas Jefferson (75). With the support of CCSD 15, Bike to School Day has been held for 10 years now, with increasing participation every single year.

Let’s keep those kids riding! Bike Palatine Club is hosting two upcoming events: Bike Scavenger Hunt, June 10th at 9:30 am starting and ending at the Palatine Public Library. Just $5/team, helmets, a little knowledge of Palatine and a smart phone are required to participate in this family-friendly event where clues are provided to lead you on bike to a variety of interesting locales throughout the town. You’ll need your phone to take pictures, Google for answers and phone-a-friend if you really get stuck.

After that, a Bike Safety Rodeo will be held for the younger crowd, ages 4-9, where kids will maneuver around obstacles and practice their riding skills, followed by a short bike ride through the neighborhood. This event is scheduled for Saturday, June 24th at 9:30 at Ost Field. $5/rider includes a shirt.
