Employee Says Sign Restrictions May Impact Palatine Businesses
An employee at a Palatine business voiced his concern over the impact of sign restrictions put in place by the village during the pandemic.
PALATINE, IL — In a response to Patch's Local Business Information Center outreach, an employee at a Palatine business voiced his concern over restrictions put in place by the village — and he wasn't talking about store capacity or hours. The employee at the business that sits in the strip mall off E. Dundee Road prefers to stay anonymous, and said the village used to send warnings of fines for placing balloons, or signs within the business strip mall property.
According to the village's "Temporary Commercial Sign Regulations" dating back to 2018, no more than one sign permit can be issued at a time within a shopping center. Prohibited signs include:
- Streamers/balloons
- Air dancers
- Feather signs
"I wish someone would discuss the impact that this restriction may be having in identifying businesses that are open and the possibility of loosening those rules during these challenging times," the employee told Patch.

The employee voiced this concern in hopes it would start a discussion, especially during this time when it can be hard for customers to know whether a local business is open, and under what conditions.
