High School District 211 to Decide how Empty 60 Acres of Land is Used
Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 bought 60 acres of undeveloped land to build a sixth high school that was never built.

PALATINE, IL — About fifty years ago, Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 bought 60 acres of undeveloped land to build a sixth high school, but construction never started. Now, the school district has plans to decide within three years what to do with the land, reports The Daily Herald.
The school district purchased the land in two phases, in 1966 and 1971. Since at least 1996, the village of Schaumburg has planned to likely build a residential development on the land between Summit Drive and Plum Grove Road.
The village is trying to complete a revision of its plan about this time next year, Matt Frank, Schaumburg's assistant director of community development, told The Daily Herald.

"There is a demand for housing," Frank said to The Daily Herald.
District 211 is calling for all officials to establish all the potential options for the 60 acres within the next year. While a residential development is the most probable use of the land, District 211 can identify a different direction, based on conducting community outreach to gather feedback on what residents hope is built on the land.

By the end of the second year, District 211 plans to have a timeline in place and an estimate of the costs. The plan should then be executed by the end of the third year.
If a residential development is built on the site, the Schaumburg Park District would look into including a park and recreational space on the land as well, Executive Director Tony LaFrenere said, according to The Daily Herald.
