PALATINE, IL – To increase the capacity to accommodate the growing demand for emergency and ongoing assistance throughout the region, the agency has launched its Building for Hope capital campaign to construct a year-round, 24-hour, comprehensive two-story facility that will enable all clients, especially those with unique needs and challenges, to streamline their journey to stability by receiving on-site critical supportive services, shelter, and permanent housing.

JOURNEYS wishes that a live event could be held, but due to Covid-19 regulations, it will not be open to the public. A YouTube livestream will be available to the public that can be found on the JOURNEYS website, www.journeystheroadhome.org

“For the JOURNEYS family, the word "groundbreaking" stands for far more than breaking of ground. It stands for the groundbreaking of critical resources, which requires connections, collaboration, and community. It stands for groundbreaking trust and investment from those who need us knowing we will make their lives more stable and filled with hope. It stands for the groundbreaking partnership between professional expertise and program design that will make the services approach unique. It stands for our staff and the Board of Directors' groundbreaking wisdom in choosing to invest in a future that is difficult to predict. And it stands for the groundbreaking generosity of our donors, construction and architect partners and our outstanding volunteers who want to share their positive JOURNEYS experience with generations to come” – Beth Nabors Executive Director of JOURNEYS | The Road Home

The current 8,000 square foot facility and parking lot at 1140 E. Northwest Highway in Palatine will become a two-story, year-round fixed shelter site, clinical service day center, and affordable housing purveyor for the homeless.

“It's so easy to see the mountain of need out there. Even though many of the homeless try to become invisible, they cannot totally. For me, it was too easy to see it, but avert my eyes and keep moving on. But there are heroes out there that run to help rather than turn away. The heroes of our community have come together for decades through Journeys to come alongside the least and the lost: to feed, clothe, heal, and equip them to be independent. The heroes are an army of volunteers, donors, staff. Now they have come together to do more and better with a larger facility. It's not fancy, but it is a physical reflection of the beautiful hearts of all these heroes.”
