Palatine 2013 Summer Camp

Enrollment is starting soon for many summer camps. Here are just a few of the many summer camps available in and around Palatine.

Does your child want to be a Broadway star? Palatine Park District’s summer camp can help them feel like one. It is one of the many camps offered in the area.

Where: Various locations

Information: Kids can do everything that makes summer, well, summer. Arts, crafts, swimming, sports and games are part of the day. Day camps or summer long camps are available.

Information: Swimming. Softball. Basketball. Soccer. SportCamp has it all. Children can spend a week playing in their favorite sports.

Girls Lacrosse Summer Camp

Where: Ron Beese Park, 50 Rotary Drive, Barrington

Information: Girls in 3rd to 9th grade can learn the building blocks of girls’ lacrosse or advance their skills on the field.

Broadway Boot Camp

Where: Palatine Community Center

Information:  This camp is not really on the famed Broadway but children will feel like Broadway stars. The camp gives young and aspiring performers a chance to work on a production titled “Shakespeare goes to Gravel Gulch or….The Villain Drove a Bard Bargain.”

Traditional Summer Camp

The YMCA has four resident camps located in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan that offer traditional sleep-away camp. A few locations:

Camp Duncan

Where: Near Fox Lake, Il.

Campers stay in cabins and are grouped according to age and gender. Children are always under staff supervision as they swim, do rope courses, archery, nature hikes and other activities.

Family Camp Nawakwa

Where: Lac de Flambeau, Wis.

Information: Parents can relive summer camp memories, or create new ones, at this unique family camp. The camp is home to the Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

Specialty Camps

Language Stars

Where: 111 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights

Information: Your child can learn how to ask for a snow cone in Spanish or Mandarin or French or German or Italian. It’s just an example of the fun things children can learn at Language Stars’ summer camp. The camp has fun summer activities based around learning a new language.

Don Beebe’s House of Speed

Where: 573 S. Consumers Ave., Palatine

Information: Does your child want to work on his or her training for soccer, football, baseball or volleyball? House of Speed offers Sport Specific Speed Training that teaches children how to prevent injury and build confidence as well as other skills.

Summer Dance Camp

Where: Palatine Park District’s Cutting Hall

Information: Future Dancing with the Stars contestants can start their dancing career here, at Summer Dance Camp. Students in 3rd to 8th grade can learn how to dance swing, hip-hop, jazz, line dancing and even hula.

Immanuel Lutheran Church

Where: 200 N. Plum Grove Road

Information: The church has a Vacation Bible Summer Camp for a week as well as Discovery Camp for the summer. All children are welcomed to attend. Many churches have vacation bible camps so check with your family’s church for more possible options.
