PALATINE, IL — Looking for fun activities for your children during spring break 2020? Palatine Patch is putting together a detailed list of spring break programs, camps, meals and other resources available for families who aren't traveling during the upcoming spring break week, March 23 through 27, especially families with working parents who may need a place for their children to spend time during the work day.
JP Wood Martial Arts
- Spring Break Nerf Camp — 249 E. Northwest Highway in Palatine; 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, March 23 and 24; ages 8 to 16 years. Target, accuracy, quickness and agility practice, team tactics and giant Nerf battles with obstacles await all campers. All equipment provided. Bring packed lunch and drink each day. - School’s Out Fun — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (extended hours before and after available) Monday, March 23 at Community Center, 250 E. Wood Street in Palatine. $40 to $64 per person (depending on residency and extended hours); registration: register.palatineparks.org
- Team MSL Spring Break Coed Basketball Camp — 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, March 23 through Thursday, March 26 at Falcon Park Recreation Center, 2195 N. Hicks Road in Palatine. $130 to $163 per person; registration: register.palatineparks.org
- Family Friendly Theatre’s “Cinderella” — 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24 at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street in Palatine. $6 per person ($5 each for groups of 5 or more). Tickets: cuttinghall.org/boxoffice/familyfriendlytheatre

Vernon Area Public Library: Vernon Area Public Library programs are free and open to the public. Register for programs online at calendar.vapld.info, by telephone at 224-543-1486 or in person at the library, 300 Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire. For ticketed events, free tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event. Unless noted otherwise, events are held at the library, the library said, in a press release.

- A Taste of Storytime — 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21. The whole family is invited to this sampler of the library’s weekday story times, plus coffee and donuts. Learn how early learning activities set the stage for your child’s success. Meet other families and your library’s early learning experts. Ages 0–5 years with an adult. Siblings welcome. Ticket required.
- Games for Grownups — 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 22. Join other tabletop gamers for an afternoon of play. Bring your own game, borrow one of the library’s or jump in on a pickup game of chess. Open to adults and high school students of all skill levels. Drop in.
- Lego Architects — 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 23. Grades K–4; work through a challenge, then let your imagination run wild during free building time. Registration required.
- Lego Master Builders: 50-Piece Challenge — 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 23; grades 5–8 meet the challenge. Registration required.
- Chess Challenge Meetup — 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24; grades 2-8; test your knowledge and sharpen your skills. Registration required.
- Little Spring Fling — 9:30 a.m. to 10: 15 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 25; dance off the winter blues and celebrate the coming of spring at a high-energy dance party. Ages 0–3 years with an adult. Siblings welcome. Drop in.
- Soaring Science — 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 25; learn how design changes affect what your paper airplane can do in this hands-on STEM program. Grades 3–5. Registration required.
- You’ve Got Talent! Storytime and Showcase — 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26; stories, dancing and an uplifting showcase of preschool feats boost your tot’s positive self-expression and self-esteem. Optional: Sign up for a 5-minute time slot to share a talent (like sweet dance moves or an expressive high five) 30 minutes before the program begins. Ages 3–6 years with an adult. Registration required.
- Starry Night Storytime — 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26; an evening story time sure to get out those last few wiggles. Ages 0–6 years with an adult. Siblings welcome. Drop in.
- Little Yogis Storytime — 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday, March 27; combine well-being and reading readiness through stories, rhymes and simple poses for you and your child. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Ages 3 and up with an adult. Registration required.
