Palatine Library is Frugal and Proud of It

The chart compares Palatine Library's revenues with the surrounding
libraries. Even though Palatine Library's community is the second
largest in population, the Library receives the least amount of tax
dollars per person. That's because the Library has not had an operating tax increase in 44 years.

The Library did ask for a capital referendum to raise funds for the
Main Library -- those funds were paid off and the bond tax was retired
in 2011. The Library Board respects Palatine's taxpayers -- when they
did not need the extra funds they ended the bond tax, allowing the
library tax to drop to its original 1975 level.

Even with voter approval of the modest tax increase, the Library will
still be operating frugally--and delivering world-class services.
