MODESTO, CALIFORNIA — A 25-year-old Palatine man was killed in a hit and run in California last week. Brian Crooks was hit by a car that was traveling north on Vivian Road southwest of Modesto, California, on July 23 and was run over by other vehicles before someone stopped to call 911, according to the Modesto Bee. Authorities says it's possible the drivers of the vehicles that ran over Crooks did not know they ran over a person.

Crooks was a graduate of Fremd High School, according to his obituary.

A memorial service for Crooks will be held on Saturday, August 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N. Benton St., Palatine. Burial will be private.
