Palatine Police Announce Fourth Of July Traffic Safety Campaign
The Palatine Police Department also announced a Roadside Safety Check taking place during the Fourth Of July Traffic Safety Campaign.
PALATINE, IL —The Palatine Police Department announced in a news release Monday a Fourth of July traffic enforcement campaign is underway. According to the news release, police are cracking down on impaired drivers and those violating state seat belt laws through July 6, encompassing three weekends leading up to and after Independence Day. The Palatine Police Department will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff's departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort, the news release said.
The Palatine Police Department said they will also conduct a Roadside Safety Check during the evening of June 26 through the morning of June 27 in the area of Algonquin and Roselle roads.
"We're asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely," the Palatine Police Department said, in the news release. "It's simple: If you're driving, don't drink or use drugs. Our officers will be out in full force to keep impaired drivers off the road."

According to the news release, the police department also urges residents and visitors to designate a sober driver and to not let friends or family members drive under the influence.

- Give your designated driver your keys before you go out.
- If you are drunk or impaired by marijuana or other drugs, call a taxi, take mass transit, use your favorite ride-sharing service, or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
- Use your community's designated driver program (Insert your local program contact information if applicable).
- Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 911.
- Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears his or her seat belt. Not only is it the law, it's your best defense against an impaired driver.
