Palatine Veterans Day 2020: What's Open, Closed

Most banks, government offices and public schools in Palatine will be closed Wednesday.

PALATINE, IL — Veterans Day is Nov. 11, which falls on a Wednesday this year. The national holiday was established in 1926 to honor men and women who have served in the military.

To honor those veterans, many places around the country will be closed.

Palatine Village Hall: Village hall will be closed Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. It will reopen the following day.

Palatine School District 15: According to the school district's calendar, schools will be open. Also, its regular board of education meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Veteran's Day. Details can be found at this link.

Palatine Police Department: No matter the time of year or the occasion, the men and women in blue are always here to protect and serve.

Palatine Refuse & Recycling Schedule: Solid waste collection will take place as regularly scheduled. (See link for additional details)

American Legion Post 690: They will hold a Veterans Day program this Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Veteran's Memorial at Community Park on Wood Street and Northwest Highway in Palatine. More details can be found at this link.

Federal government (including the U.S. Postal Service): Closed

Banks: Many, if not most, will be closed. Check your local branch.

Express delivery companies: FedEx and UPS will be open.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Day commemorates Armistice Day -- the day when World War I hostilities ended between the Allies and Germany. Veterans Day is officially observed on Nov. 11, regardless of which day it falls.
