Recycle Electronics At Cook County Waste Agency's Event

Find out what items will be accepted at the Harper College event set for the end of July.

PALATINE, IL — An electronics recycling event for residents of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County will be held at the end of the July at Harper College. Sponsored by the school, the Village of Palatine and the Palatine Park District, the event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 21, on the college's Palatine campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road.

Only SWANCC residents, businesses, schools and other institutions can recycle items during the event, and organizers will be checking identification. Participants must be in vehicles to recycle items, entering and leaving the campus at Euclid Avenue.

Some of the items that will be accepted for recycling include:

  • answering machines
  • cable and satellite receivers
  • calculators
  • camcorders
  • cameras
  • CD and DVD Players (no disks)
  • cellphones
  • computers — including desktop, notebook and tablet models — monitors, keyboards, mice and cables
  • fax machines and printers
  • power tools and cords
  • small home appliances, such as toasters, blenders and other items
  • stereo equipment (no wood items will be accepted)
  • landline telephones
  • TVs
  • typewriters
  • video game consoles
  • video recorders and players (no tapes allowed)

Items that will not be accepted include:

  • dehumidifiers and humidifiers
  • air conditioners
  • vacuum cleaners
  • refrigerators and other large home appliances.

Along with Palatine, other nearby SWANCC communities include Arlington Heights, Inverness, Wheeling, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights and Rolling Meadows.
