Remembering The Brown's Chicken Massacre Victims 27 Years Later

Seven people working at a Brown's Chicken restaurant in Palatine all encountered evil on Jan. 8, 1993.

PALATINE, IL — January 8 marks the anniversary of one of the most horrific crimes committed in the Chicagoland area. It was on Jan. 8, 1993 when two men brutally murdered seven innocent victims who were working at a Brown's Chicken restaurant on Northwest Highway in Palatine.

Richard Ehlenfeldt, Lynn Ehlenfeldt, Guadalupe Maldonado, Michael Castro, Rico Solis, Thomas Mennes and Marcus Nellsen all encountered evil that night. But who they were should never be forgotten. The Chicago Tribune talked to family members of the victims on the 20th anniversary of the massacre in 2013. An ABC-7 segment on the victims aired on the 25th anniversary.

Now 27 years later, the crime is still remembered as one of the suburbs' worst ever. Take a look back below as we detailed the events of that night at the restaurant and the nine-year search for the killers.
