The first major area outdoor Scout BSA camping event was the April 12-14 “1776 Camporee” at Camp Lakota in Woodstock, Illinois. Boys and girls participated in, exploring and experiencing the official beginning of our Nation, from the Declaration of Independence to the writing of our Constitution, with opportunities to earn merit badges, explore, cook like pioneers, compete, battle for independence, dress like a revolutionary person with tricorn hats, as well as hike through the 120 acres of varied forest, prairie and wetlands which make Camp Lakota a valued resource for camping, and the outdoor Scouting program for girls and boys.

Shown are Brian Cooper of Lake Zurich, Scoutmaster Troop 335 in Palatine and event organizer, and Scouts BSA girls participating Left to right Grace Ziomek, Sahana Srinivasan and Jill Harvey of the Troop 209 girl troop in Palatine, Illinois

The inclusion of girls and boys in all the Boy Scouts of America programs ensures the BSA outdoor oriented programs of value-based leadership development, exploration, and character development are available to all members of the family. See BeAScout.org
