The League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area and Palatine Cool Cities Environmental Team are hosting a free virtual environmental program entitled: “Transportation Transformation: Plugging into a Greener Future.” The program will be held on Tuesday, February 16, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom.

U.S. Representative Sean Casten, IL 6th Congressional District, will present information about the current state of electric cars, trucks, buses, and trains, as well as the advantages of electric transportation, including health and economic benefits. He will also address what the US Government is doing, and can do, to help with installation of charging stations, investments in new technology, and tax incentives for companies and individuals.

“Passing legislation to begin decarbonizing the transportation sector could and should have happened years ago – but the next best time is now,” says Representative Casten. “Fuel efficient vehicles are better for the environment, and cost consumers less at the pump—a true win-win. Reducing vehicle emissions is essential to combating climate change and will make our communities cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant.”

Representative Casten is a leader in areas of clean energy policies and technology. He introduced the Efficient Vehicle Leadership Act, legislation that would combat the climate crisis by reducing transportation emissions, and is a member of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.

“We hope that this event will raise public awareness of the causes and likely impacts of climate change, help citizens learn what they can do to protect the environment—including supporting more fuel-efficient vehicles—and build broad support for effective climate solutions on the path to a sustainable future,” says Jackie McGrath, LWV of the Palatine Area.
