What Is the Yes Committee? How Is It Related to Other Library Groups?

The Yes Committee is a group of Palatine residents and business and
community leaders who value Palatine Public Library’s contributions to
all members of our community. The Yes Committee is independent of
Palatine Library and other library groups. We believe that Palatine
Library makes Palatine and the surrounding communities a better place to
live. We stand with the Library in seeking referendum approval from
voters on April 2, 2019.

Other Library-related groups:

Palatine Public Library District (PPLD)

This is the library for nearly 90,000 residents in Palatine and parts
of four more communities. It is an independent taxing district (so it’s
not part of the Village of Palatine’s budget).

PPLD Board of Library Trustees

Seven elected officials (non-partisan, unpaid, 4-year terms) who
manage the Library finances and policies. They hire the Director, but
they do not select materials, programs or hire any other staff.

Library Director (Jeannie Dilger)

Hired by the Board of Trustees, the Director runs the day-to-day
operations of the Library. The Director informs and advises the Trustees
in making decisions.

Friends of the Library (The Friends)

A non-profit volunteer organization whose sole aim is to raise money
for support of the Library. They pay for the summer and winter reading
program prizes. They bought the Library its van, and they provide other
furnishings, materials and equipment. They raise most of their funds
through used book sales held several times a year at the Library. One of
the two library affiliate organizations.

Palatine Library Foundation (The Foundation)

A non-profit charitable organization which raises funds and advocates
for the Library. It raises money for projects that could not be funded
out of tax dollars and can apply for grants that public libraries would
not be eligible to apply for. One of the two library affiliate
organizations.

Library Volunteers

Residents of the library district community who do tasks such as shelving items.
