13 People Shot During Large Fight Along Peoria Riverfront

Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries while 11 others also suffered gunshot wounds.

PEORIA, IL — Thirteen people were shot after a large fight broke out along the riverfront in Peoria, police in the city said. Police responded to the area of Water Street and Hamilton Boulevard — just south of Interstate 74 and on the banks of Peoria Lake — around 4:45 a.m. to find the multiple shooting victims.

Two people, a man with gunshot wounds to his neck and a woman with gunshot wounds to her back, were taken by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries, Peoria Police Department spokeswoman Amy Dotson said.

Eleven other people were taken separately to hospitals with gunshot wounds to their extremities. In all, Dotson said there were 13 victims: seven women and six men, all adults.

Multiple people were firing guns at the time, police later said. Police did not have descriptions of any suspects available Sunday afternoon.

The gunfire broke out during a large fight that included nearly 200 people, Dotson said. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Peoria police were still investigating the incident at 11 a.m. Sunday, with no arrests having been made.
