5 Illinois Towns Among 'Best Places To Live'

A new set of rankings from the website Niche names the best places to live in 2019, including numerous towns in Illinois.

ILLINOIS — A total of five Illinois cities made this year's Niche roundup of Best Places To Live. The “Best Places to Live” rankings include cities, city neighborhoods and suburbs. Niche defines a place as a “non-rural town” with a population of 1,000 or more, including neighborhoods, suburbs and cities. Niche also separately ranked the best cities, neighborhoods and suburbs to live in.

The highest ranking town in Illinois was Naperville, coming in at No. 6 overall on the list. This is the full list of Illinois towns included in the rankings:

  • Naperville (No. 6)
  • Chicago (No. 88)
  • Springfield (No. 119)
  • Peoria (No. 144)
  • Elgin (No. 158)

Naperville also took the No. 1 spot on Niche's "Best Cities To Raise A Family" list. Other Illinois cities on the Best Place To Raise a Family list:

Racking up yet another honor, Naperville was Illinois' highest-rated city on Niche's "Best Cities To Buy A House" list, coming in at No. 6. Springfield came in at No. 37.

Niche released its “Best Places to Live” rankings on Monday. The publication says its goal is to “provide accurate, comparable and thorough evaluations of places.” Using data from government and private sources, Niche grades the places evaluated for the rankings on factors like public schools, crime and safety and housing.
