Bradley Student Killed In Off-Campus Shooting

Nasjay Murry, 18, had hoped to become a doctor. She and a 22-year-old man were killed in a Sunday night shooting.

PEORIA, IL — A Chicago teen studying at Bradley University one of two people killed in an off-campus shooting Sunday night near Peoria. A tweet from the university expressed grief at the death of 18-year-old Nasjay Murry, a Bradley freshman who was reportedly shot at a residence in the 1800 block of West Bradley Avenue.

Also killed was 22-year-old Anthony Polnitz, while another female Bradley student was hurt in the shooting, according to Peoria Public Radio. Peoria police responded to the shooting at around 1:45 a.m. as a large group of people reportedly fled from the home.

Murry was a biomedical sciences major who planned to become a doctor, ABC Chicago reported. Murry was a graduate of King College Prep High School, where she was a member of the band and National Honor Society. Her cousin, April Hill, told ABC the family had hoped Nasjay would be safer at college, away from Chicago's South Side where she grew up.

Peoria police said another shooting death, that of 24-year-old John W. Bell, on Saturday is not believed to be related to the deaths of Murry and Polnitz, according to Peoria Public Radio.

Bradley University tweeted that counseling would be made available to students, faculty and staff, and flags on campus were lowered to half-staff. "Hugging our Braves close today," a message from the school said, while another called Murry's murder a "senseless tragedy."
