Bradley University Student From Chicago Killed In Shooting

Nasjay Murry, of Chicago's South Shore neighborhood, was identified as one of the victims in the overnight shooting.

PEORIA, IL — An off-campus shooting in Peoria has left two people dead, including a student from Bradley University. The university in a tweet identified one of the victims in the overnight shooting as freshman Nasjay Murry, of Chicago. He had been studying biomedical science at the school.

"At Bradley, we are a family," the university said in a tweet. "Together, we are deeply affected and grieving at this senseless tragedy. We extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to Nasjay’s family and friends."

Flags on campus will fly at half-staff for three days to honor Murry, the university said.

"Hugging our Braves close today," it added.

Murry, 18, was from the South Shore community in Chicago, The Journal Star reported. He was declared dead around 3:30 a.m. Sunday by the Peoria County coroner's office.

According to his Facebook page, Murry attended Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. College Preparatory High School in Chicago's North Kenwood neighborhood.

A second Bradley University student was also hurt in the shooting, which happened around 1:45 a.m. That person was treated and released from a hospital.

Two men were found dead at the scene on the 1800 block of West Bradley Avenue, the newspaper reported.

Counseling services will be available on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. in Heitz Hall room 100 and then from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Garrett Center. Those services are available to students, faculty and staff.
