City Grows Recognition For Urban Forestry Efforts

A tree planting ceremony at Constitution Garden is set for Arbor Day, April 30.

The city of Peoria will gain a new tree while promoting urban forestry efforts during a tree planting ceremony at Constitution Garden on Arbor Day, Friday, April 30.

In 2020 the City was designated a Tree City USA® community – joining the ranks of more than 3,400 communities across the United States that have made the commitment to four core standards of sound urban forestry management

“This commemorative tree planting is a wonderful way to celebrate our commitment to making our city greener and healthier for generations to come,” said Rick Powers, Peoria Public Works Director.

Public Works, the Peoria Park District and the South-West Kiwanis Club are partnering in commemoration of Arbor Day. The annual event gives citizens the opportunity to join together to celebrate all kinds of trees and the betterment of the environment. They not only witness a tree planting, but celebrate the benefits of community trees and the work accomplished to foster their growth, maintain and protect them.
