Area motorists given the gift of reopened road Wednesday
PEORIA – December 23, 2020 – The complete road overhaul on Sheridan Road is wrapping up in the coming days and weeks. Beginning today, Wednesday, December 23, the road will be reopened to motorists for the first time since early August.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution while traveling in the area as some minor projects are still underway. Just in the past week the bike lane portion of the project was completed, landscaping finalized and traffic lights prepped for installation.
Many of the barricades and detours surrounding the site will be removed, repositioned or replaced. Drivers should be on watch for all stop conditions, as temporary flashing stop lights will be in play until the permanent traffic lights are installed
Why Sheridan?
Sheridan Road is a highly used corridor in the City with an Average Daily Traffic (ADT) of more than 6,000 vehicles. The road runs north to south just above Interstate 74 – making it a well-traveled arterial road.
In addition, CityLink relies heavily on the road as their drivers take passengers as far north as Evergreen Square and as far south as Southwest Adams Street. All in all, the improvements are making the road safer, easier to travel and more enjoyable for residents.
