Obituary: Clifton Lee “Wolfie” Cavitt

Wolfie was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving three tours in Vietnam.

Clifton Lee “Wolfie” Cavitt, age 71, of Brooksville, FL, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, with his family by his side. Cliff was born on February 14, 1947, the son of the late Cecil and Pauline (nee Griffin) Cavitt. He is formerly of Peoria, IL and grew up in Elwood, IL. Cliff graduated in 1965 from Joliet East High School and received his Bachelors Degree from College of St. Francis. He was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving three tours in Vietnam. Cliff was a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, VFW Wilmington Post, and was proud of the fact that he was the first Eagle Scout of Elwood. He retired in 1986, from the United States Treasury Department, after several years of dedicated service.

Cliff will be remembered for his outgoing personality, being the life of the party and never meeting a stranger. He always spoke his mind, but would be there for anyone who needed him. He loved going to Harrah’s and will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to meet him.

Cliff is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Helen Marie (nee Olson); his children, Christopher (Chrissy) Cavitt and Lisa Marie Cavitt; grandchildren, Brooklynn Cavitt, Tyler Waznis, Haylee Castellano and Alexandria Marie Cavitt; and his sisters-in-law, Karen Olson and Betty Merseth. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He was preceded by his parents and several of his wife’s family members.

Visitation for Clifton Lee Cavitt will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018, from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
