Police Search For Unattended Toddler Spotted In Peoria

Peoria police said an officer was stationed in the empty parking lot across from Coopers Gas Station to speak to anyone who has info.

PEORIA, IL — The Peoria Police Department said officers were called to the area of McClure and Sheridan at 6:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a toddler walking alone in the area. According to police, a witness said they tried approaching the child, but he ran off southbound on Flora from McClure. The witness described the unattended child as a black male with a light complexion, wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, no pants and brown cowboy boots while yelling for his mom, police said.

PPD said a reverse 911 was being done for a 3-mile radius and officers and detectives are canvassing the area.

In a PPD Facebook post, police commented at 9:51 a.m., "Our main focus is the health and welfare of this child. If he has returned home - please let us know. An officer will be posted in the empty parking lot across from Coopers Gas Station for anyone who has information."

PPD asked anyone with information regarding the child or his whereabouts to call the department immediately at 673-4521 or 911, and to please call if this is your child and he's OK.
